Last Cooking Class in Kawajima, 03-18-2013

More goodbyes today.  I went to my last cooking class in Kawajima.  Our teacher thought it would be fun if we played dress up.  So there are some rather strange pictures below.

Sakura rice - make rice, add salted
sakura (cherry tree) blossoms.
Very aromatic.
Kelp in vinegar with ground sesame.
Delicious!
Uiro yokan, a sweet bean dessert.

The main dish - deep fried sweet potatoes with sauteed
chicken, vegetables, sauce and 10 hot peppers!
Way too spicy for me (and most), and very unusual
since spicy food is not usually served here.

And on to dress-up time...

Yes, a man.

On the way home we stopped at the teacher's teacher/friend's house to pick up some broccoli (tons of it from a neighbor's field) and see her Girl's Day display.  Of course we had tea and some delicious yokan as well.  And she also tried on the dresses.  We were given some fresh Naruto wakame (a type of seaweed) as well.  It was a pretty big bag  but I didn't realize it would expand when washed as well.  So I'll be eating a LOT of wakame and brocolli this week, and next... and sharing.
I've put some in soup and in some vinegar and sugar with daikon for dinner.

The preferred way of 'storing' daikon.
You cut off the leaves and leave the rest in
the ground.  Usually they're a bit deeper..

Some Girl's day senbei (crackers).

Awa Odori mobile.

Girl's day rabbit dolls.
