We happened to have ikebana and tea ceremony on Feb. 14 so there were even more sweets than usual - and lots more chocolate. All day.
In Japan the tradition for Valentine's Day is for girls to give boys chocolates to let them know they 'like' them. But lately many girls also make chocolates or cookies, etc. for their friends. It's also a big thing on tv, very funny. There is also something called 'giri choco' 'obligatory chocolates', so on tv comedies/dramas men who wouldn't have normally gotten anything were so happy to get even giri choco. On March 14 there is 'White Day' where the boys are supposed to give the girls candy.
