Ishizumi machi (Misato) and Kawajima cooking class, 02-18-2013

A delicious lunch after cooking class today, I'll definately be making these dishes again.

                                                                                         pork, apple and cheese stacks

Tamagodofu dashi

rice with roasted soybeans and chopped daikon (Japanese radish) leaves

Tiramisu

After class, even though it was a rainy day, we drove further west to Ishizumi machi which is a area that has terraced hills that are held up by rock walls that have been there for at least 100 years, but I would guess a lot longer.  It was pretty even in the mist and overcast sky, but by the middle or end of March through April probably it will be really beautiful with plum and cherry trees and a kind of ground cover with pink flowers.  They also have some ice plants that look very much like those of Pacific Grove.  Here are some winter pictures.

a type of pussy willow, pink

Suweda sensei (my cooking teacher)

some of that ....zakura ground cover blooming early

the yellow tree is a roobai (wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox); Japanese allspice) it has a beautiful sweet fragrance.  The rows of green is nanohana (rape) usually has little yellow flowers
