The Fujiwaras
The sky was finally a beautiful blue and it was the warmest day yet. Unfortunately I was wearing 3 layers in
preparation for Osaka! Yoshie and I
walked to the monorail station together but then headed in different
directions. She was going to go to an
outlet mall since her plane didn't leave until 5pm, but mine was at 11:30am so
I went to the airport. I have to say the
security is much more relaxed than in the US!
After a smooth flight I found the train headed for my friend Yukie's
neighborhood in Osaka. We had a little
trouble finding each other at the other end, but with the help of our
cellphones we finally ended up in the same place! Yukie's husband used to work for Sumitomo
Bank and their family was in Carmel for 2 years when Sumitomo owned part of PB
(about 17 years ago). They were there at
the same time Yoshie's family was there and their son is the same age as
Peter. So we had a nice evening reminiscing
and enjoying Osaka's famous okonomiyaki (cabbage + many things savory
pancake). It's funny how even if you
haven't seen people for many years it’s like yesterday when you do meet.
